Pure Health Check

We’ve joined a place called Pure Gym in Cardiff – because we joined before it has actually opened, we are going to be paying just £9.99 per month for the first year which is a bargain! We both went for our free Pure Health Checks this evening and these are my statistics – I felt that this was probably the best place to record them!

Height: 175cm
Weight: 78.5kg (there are scales we can use at the gym but they are Kg which is going to be a shock to the system)
Hip Circumference: 101cm
Waist Circumference: 74cm
Activity Rate: Very low (I really don’t do much exercise at the moment)

Fat: 26.4% (target 20-26%)
Fat Mass: 20.7kg (target 15-20kg)
Lean Mass: 57.8kg (target 56-60kg)
Total: 78.5kg (target 72-78kg)

Water: 50.4% (target 50-60%)
Water (HR): 39.6l (target 39-47lt) – I haven’t got a clue what this is, although was told I should be drinking more and also if I increase muscle mass I’ll automatically store more water.

BMR (Kcal): 1824Kcal (the amount I need to have basic bodily functions)
BMR/Body Weight (Kcal/Kg): 232Kcal/Kg
Est. average required (Kcal): 2553 Kcal – if I increase exercise then this number would need to go up

BMI: 25.7 (Target 20-25)
Hip:Waist Ratio: 0.73 (High Risk = 0.80>)

Blood Pressure: 126/73 (Average 120/80)
Heart Rate: 74

So there we go, not sure if that means much to anyone but I guess if I have another check in the future, I’ll hopefully be more within the targets.

I didn’t manage the whole week without snacking, but working on only being entitled to 30 points meant I was less likely to stray into my 49 extra…therefore I’m going to try the same again as I lost 2lb taking me to 12 st 3. I didn’t go to a WW meeting, but that’s a story for another day as I’m blogging from the iPad without contact lenses so can’t really see what I’m doing!

Fireworks!

There were definitely a lot of fireworks around last night. Including one that came down and pierced our car port roof!!!

We went up to Caerphilly Castle to see their display as we had heard lots of feedback that it is a good place to go. We got there early, with our tea and folding seats and my camera kit so that we could get a prime spot!

This is probably one of my favourite photos, especially as you can see The Plough above the castle!

Bastard Boots

I am not happy with Boots. This is the second time over three weeks that their scales have been “Out of Order”. I’ve decided that I am going to bite the bullet and go to a WeightWatchers class in St Mellons next Monday evening. Because I should be under 12 stone 7 (my goal) and if not, at least under 12 stone 12, I will still get classes for free – although I’m not sure if I have to pay to “register” with the new class. If anyone knows, please tell me. I’m not sure if Ben is going to come with me or not. He will need to pay so its not quite so fun for him.

I’m also going back to basics this week. I’ve worked out that my breakfast and lunch comes to 15 pro points each day. That leaves me with 15 points for tea which generally is more than enough. I’m going to try this week to not snack in the evenings on anything apart from fruit.

On Saturday Ben and I had a day trip to London to see Matilda, the new musical that has been orchestrated by Tim Minchin. It was a fantastic day although a very long coach trip there and back!

We didn’t use the underground at all, instead walking to/from Victoria Coach Station to Covent Garden (healthy)! I also got to walk past Buckingham Palace and we went to look at the London Eye whilst we had some time to spare. We stood next to Big Ben as it was chiming 6pm. On the way back to the Coach Station we saw this fantastic building – I think it was so pretty!

Ok, I found this on MacGirl’s blog but I like the idea so I “stole” it!

B. Bed size: King size, with a fantastic memory foam topper

C. Chore that you hate: Ironing, to the point that I probably only iron 3-4 times per year!

D. Dogs: Would love to have one – potentially a labrador or a collie but the cats wouldn’t like us and we are out at work for too long each day

E. Essential start to your day: Lumie alarm clock, iPhone, shower, dress, dry hair, porridge made by Ben.

F. Favorite colour: Purple

G. Gold or Silver: I prefer silver or white gold

H. Height: 5’8.5

I. Instruments you play: I don’t play at the moment but have played tenor sax, baritone sax, clarinet, bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, flute, piano and guitar and I own all but the baritone sax, contrabass clarinet and piano! I do sing though.

J. Job title: Occupational Therapist (Occupational Therapists work with people of all ages, helping them to carry out the activities that they need or want to do, to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.)

K. Kids: None yet, hopefully at some point soon

L. Live: On the outskirts of Cardiff, Wales

M. Mother’s name: Yvonne

N. Nicknames: My dad has always called me “Beetle” and my friends at college used to call me “Misscooldude” and “Aunty B”

O. Overnight hospital stays: None yet, although I’m due to have surgery to my jaw at some point next year which is probably going to involve staying in :(

P. Pet peeves: None that I can write without getting into trouble!

S. Siblings: One was enough for my parents – I was allergic to artificial colours and my parents didn’t find out what was wrong until I was five. By then I think they had gone off the idea of every having more kids!

W. What makes you run late: Laziness

X. X-Rays you’ve had: Left Wrist (fractured), ankle (sprained – can’t remember which)

Y. Yummy food that you make: Lots of yummy foods – I love to bake but run the risk of eating it all which isn’t good unless I’m having a misguided week of WeightWatchers!

Z. Zoo animal: What a strange question to end with – I guess I love to watch the big cats so Lions, Tigers and Leopards.

I’m enjoying my winning streak at the moment, jewellery, tickets, a Lumie alarm clock and now I’ve won the WeightWatchers competition I entered in April – I submitted my recipe for Thai Quorn Chicken Curry and they’ve chosen it to go into their cookbook.

I’ve won a copy of the cookbook (once published) and a mini food processor!

Both Ben and I have had better weeks where we have both lost 2lb. That’s what being back on track (pretty much) does for you. I’ve got 11lb left to lose until my new goal and Ben has 15lb left to lose. Christmas is 8 weigh ins away (better start shopping) so I’m going to see how far I can get by then – obviously Christmas parties, etc. will have to be taken into account! If I can make it below 12 stone for Christmas I’ll be happy.

The stupid scales at Boots this evening were stupidly broken which means that we couldn’t weigh. I need to get on track as I know that I’m just under a stone heavier than I’d like to be. It’s Ben’s birthday tomorrow and we are out for tea, although I will do my best to point what I eat.

We’ll have to phone Boots next Monday to check if the scales are working and if not then I’m going to seriously have to reconsider going back to a WW meeting, although it would have to be on a Monday evening.
